Angelina Jolie (originally Angelina Jolie Voight) is an American actor and director most well-known for her sexual edginess, sex appeal and work in the field of humanitarian aid. Her role as a supporting actress in Girl, Interrupted (1999) was one of the roles she received in the Academy Award. Jolie, the daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent most of her growing up in New York. She moved to Los Angeles when she was 11 years old. After two years at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and Film Institute, she was accepted into Beverly Hills High School. Then, she pursued a degree in acting at New York University. She also appeared in theatre productions as well as modeled for music videos. It was in Hackers (1995) when Jolie was introduced to Jonny Lee Miller, a British actor (married in 1996, divorced in 1999). The film was not well-loved, as were a number of other films. Jolie was the segregationist spouse of Alabama's governor and garnered lots of attention in 1997. Later, she was awarded an award, the Golden Globe Award. Jolie played an actress who is struggling with addiction to drugs in the HBO film Gia in 1999. The performance won her many awards, including the Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award. Following her Oscar-winning performance in Girl, Interrupted, Jolie was in Pushing Tin, a comedy featuring John Cusack, Billy Bob Thornton and Billy Bob Thornton. In 2003, she divorced. In Gone in Sixty Seconds ((2000)), she played Nicole Cage's lover. Later, she took on an accent that resembled a British accent, and learned kickboxing and street fighting to play the title roles in Lara Croft Tomb Raider (2003) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider : The Cradle of Life (2004). She played the mother of Alexander in Oliver Stone's Alexander (2004) and was in the film with Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow in Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow (a sci-fi thriller set in 1930s New York City). Both films did poorly at the box office, however Jolie had a great time in Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005). She was a housewife who pretends to play an assassin. While making the film, she came across Brad Pitt who became her co-star.
